About The Essex Kite Group
Believed to be the oldest surviving non-profit kite flying club in the country, ESSEX KITE GROUP (EKG) can trace its origin back to 1976, when Clive Rawlinson enlisted others at a British Kite Flying Association (BKFA) meeting at Old Warden to form his own local group.
Today we have around 40 members. Support from friendly and helpful stalwart members has ensured regular meetings every two weeks throughout the year
Some of our fliers are of retirement age, content with their single-line kites, but we also have a younger element with two and four-line sport/powerkites and buggies, etc. Further infomation can be found on the EKG Forum.
Over recent years the club has conducted many kite workshops for children at schools, activity events and village festivals. This has provided valuable income for the Group. More information about this can be found in our club magazine "Kite Wings." In 2010 become affiliated to the BKFA.
